NLP is short for Neuro Linguistic Programming and can be described in many ways but very simply: –
- Neuro – the study of the mind and nervous system, how our thoughts and body are one system
- Linguistic – how the language and communications we use shape our world and our lives
- Programming – the patterns and programmes we have adopted through our life experiences which in turn create our current reality
I describe it as a way of understading our own individual “filing cabinet” of how we organise our thoughts, feelings, language and behaviours and how this affects our performance and day to day lives.
This practice employs a toolbox of techniques which enables swift and lasting change by “reorganising the filing cabinet” or our programming.
If we can develop a habit or behaviour that is not serving us constructively, then by using NLP techniques we can unlearn it.
